Healing the Highlander Daughters of the Glen Melissa Mayhue 9781439190203 Books

Healing the Highlander was a great addition to this series! I love how Ms. Mayhue continues to build on the world and characters we encountered in her first books. Modern day Leah, who we encountered in previous novels, is the subject of this book along with battered and scarred highlander Andrew MacAlister. When I first started to read about Andrew I feared that he'd end up being a angry bitter character for the entire book like most scarred heroes I've encountered. I was so glad to see that Andrew remained determined and strong throughout the book, and while he did battle his insecurities and challenges stemming from his injury, he never let it get the best of him. Leah, complete with her own emotional scars, is rescued by Andrew from a loch and while she battles her own internal issues, we have the pleasure of seeing Leah's walls come down. Andrew and Leah are a wonderfully paired couple, both strong in their own ways and weak in others, and they both complement each other in how they face those weaknesses.

This book has all the elements of a lighthearted Romance. I especially loved how Ms. Mayhue conveyed that family goes beyond the immediate. Leah is transported to Medieval Scotland to escape the torture of a Nuadian Fae, and there she finds a family she has never met before. She embraces them and is embraced by them, forging new bonds of loyalty which sends her on quest to save them in this book.

Much like Ms. Mayhue's previous books, I was drawn into the writing, the story and the characters. I continue to love how these stories unfold, each highlighting specific characters, letting their stories be told and live independently and yet part of a whole. This seventh book in the series does not disappoint. I would strongly recommend reading these books in order since characters appear throughout the series and events that take place in previous books have an impact on things that happen in later ones (for example; how modern day Leah ended up in the past)

Healing the Highlander Daughters of the Glen Melissa Mayhue 9781439190203 Books Reviews

Love Melussa Mayhue! This was a well written book and I enjoyed the characters and setting. Since I have followed all of this series I was excited to see Andrew's story told. He and Destiny are great characters! Big thumbs up!!!
I love her books and I have read all of her other ones from the library, but they didn't have this one so I broke down and bought it since I had to know what would happen and now I plan to buy all the others to complete my collection.
This is the book that got me started reading the Daughters of the Glen books. I have read several more of Melissa Mayhue's books and am passing them around to my fellow readers.
Since reading the first books in the Daughters of the Glen series I couldn't wait to finish and get started on the next book. I love how Ms. Mayhue weaves all of the characters together in the series and look forward to reading her other works as well.
I've loved all the books in this series. Mayhue makes you feel like you're being drawn into her books along with her characters. You can see their expressions and hear their voices in your head. If you haven't read them all I would highly recommend this series. This was probably one of my favs so far! Taking a cranky character like Drew, who doesn't believe he's a whole man, and putting him together with a 21st century woman, like Leah, who's been swept into the past to save her life. Top it off she wants nothing to do with the Fae or magic - which as we find surrounds Drew's family, makes for an interesting ride. What is Drew to do?
Wish I had read the previous books in the series before this one. While I enjoyed it very much, there were many references to past events that I missed and would have liked to know more about. That being said, I found this novel engaging with strong characters and an inventive plot. The hero and heroine were appealing and had good chemistry. The passion between them was steamy! I thought the book was well written and I was eager to find out what would happen next.
Having read all of the books in this series, I admit I enjoy seeing the characters lives unfold. From the beginning, I thought Andrew would turn into a mentally crippled antagonist. I was pleasantly surprised to learn later that he was trying to find a cure for pain, and he stayed true to his family values. In this story, he meets Leah and wants her to heal him. I liked the fact that the author kept this aspect of Andrews quest believable. If he was in pain and seeking a cure for YEARS, he would not have simply abandoned it to jump into bed with someone he was attracted to. But the issue is resolved in an acceptable manner, and I enjoyed my "happy ever after" romance (even if Leah does act impulsively at times and doesn't use her wits)!
