The Mermaid Revenge eBook Amy Cross

The Mermaid's Revenge revolves around what Sylvia, a nine year old who is about to become ten, experiences when her over controlling and nightmare to work for wealthy mother (think boss from Devil Wear's Prada) obtains as far as everyone knows, the last mermaid on earth. The mother is furious as she ordered the last two specimens, but her henchman people have only delivered one alive. Sylvia who is disfigured, told she was in a fire when she was younger, has spent pretty much every second of her almost ten years, with just her mother and a few staff inside a London high-rise, which is also the labs and place of business for her mother. She has to get cream put on her each night, is supposed to be molded to become the heir to her mother's empire, but doesn't like the toughen up experiences her mother is putting her through. She intellectually due to her isolated upbringing comes across as being a lot younger than nine, but she's still an enjoyable enough mind to experience the events of the story through. Sylvia is starting to learn that her teacher and other staff taking care of her aren't the nice people she had believed up to now. Her mother has also given her access to use the building lift and entered her fingerprints into the security system to do so. She now has access to the 2nd floor where the mother's purchase resides. She is concerned for the mermaid and what her mother and the staff member on that level are doing to her, as she doesn't think the mermaid is enjoying it. When doing her lessons all she can think about is seeing the mermaid, but she isn't allowed to talk about what she sees down there with anyone not on that floor. The staff looking after her, are not authorised to be on that floor and their noticing a change in her behaviour.

The Mermaid Revenge eBook Amy Cross Reviews

Sylvia finds it that it is not a good thing to have a mermaid for a pet, and this is not a nice mermaid, not your Splash mermaid, but a wicked mermaid and I loved the mind blowing ending for this twisted ‘tail’.
I highly recommend to readers who enjoy imagining the possibility that maybe we don't know everything about what's out there! What if mermaids are real? I loved the story being told from a child's perspective. It reminded me of viewing the world thru innocent eyes. Remember when you trusted adults just because they "said so"! This is the first Amy Cross book I've read and I can assure you that I will be seeking out her other books. It's not very often a writer can surprise me anymore. I was delighted at the plot twists I didn't see coming!
I love the view point of the story telling- I have read many stories by the author and will continue to do so- I do have my favorites by her- Had it not been for typos/editing issues Examples "I'm still not cared" instead of scared and "...I might see a second dead boy" instead of body I would've rated it 4 stars- With so many books one would think proofreading is a given-
The ending surprised me, did not expect it at all....I liked that btw. )
A totally unique spin on Mermaids and the whole myth. Once again Amy Cross found a way to take a legendary/supernatural creature and totally change it up with her incredible imagination! Awesome ending!
Wow this book just grabbed me and pulled me in. I was so enthralled and so entranced by it. This was definitely a different kind of mermaid book, but in a excellent way!! Mystery, murder, mayhem!! Betrayals and spine tingling Gore!! I highly recommend this book!! Loved it!!!
Wow. Weird book. What would be a basic horror- ish story is intensified by coming from a 10 year old girl's perspective. I didn't like Cross's reiterations throughout the entire story though. She'd say a phrase, then repeat it in another way, then state the obvious, then repeat it a different way again. I know this is commonplace to writing, but it was more than excessive in this book, even for the voice of a kid. I feel like Cross should have just went for a shorter story.
The plot is slow as hasty pudding, there's instead a lot of buildup and intensity. The resolve is acceptable, and in general there are just a few twists and turns.

In short read this book if you like weird stories, horror- ish stories, or obscure mermaid stories. Do not read this story if you desire a well- formulated/ over- formulated plotline, or an action- filled story. I liked it though. It was good enough for me.
